Some recent work…

The RA Summer Exhibition is curated this year by Grayson Perry. He wanted a humorous theme. I tried this, but decided not to submit it. I needed a line block of Morecambe and Wise to finish it off. Had to make do with Masaryk and Benes…

Not necessarily in the right order. A tribute to Eric and Ernie…

Printing numbers can be a bit of a lottery

A tribute to Jiri (2)

Jirí Kolár  was a member of the Czech group Skupina 42. A poet and an artist,  his collages are full of humour and have a strong sense of design. For many years he corresponded, using collage post cards, with Béatrice Bizot. Béatrice was a would-be journalist and the older man and the younger woman set up a friendship where he encouraged her creative development. Eventually Beatrice became a brilliant sculptor.

Work seen and admired…

Tomas Rajlich is a Czech-Dutch artist whose work is on display at Museum Kampa, Prague until the end of July 2017. His collage-like monotypes from the 1960s use monochromatic aluminium foil to great effect. Rajlich considers himself to be a Fundamental painter. You can find out more here.

Full Working Order

Thanks to a lengthy overhaul from David from Harry Rochat, the ArtyGladys press is now fully operational. A new run out leg has been made and fitted, and the balance and tensions adjusted perfectly.

The picture shows one of Rochat’s Albion presses, sporting a similar leg to the one supplied.

Normal service will be resumed…

After about 40 years, it would seem. Purchased in the late 1960s from a small back street printer in Worthing, the press was set up in the cellars of Findon Place, where it was put to use in printing Christmas cards.

Since then it has been housed in Lewes, Stanford Dingley, in a field in Berkshire and is now in its own studio in deepest Kent.

On Wednesday 24th January it will be serviced by an engineer from Harry Rochat. Quite possibly for the first time since World War II.
