Jirí Kolár was a member of the Czech group Skupina 42. A poet and an artist, his collages are full of humour and have a strong sense of design. For many years he corresponded, using collage post cards, with Béatrice Bizot. Béatrice was a would-be journalist and the older man and the younger woman set up a friendship where he encouraged her creative development. Eventually Beatrice became a brilliant sculptor.
